And they were asking to be created my way, to be expressed how I see them and experience them, with deep reverence and respect for the heritage that they carry.
So it became a devotional creative practice. To draw these 30 goddesses, and to only work on each one in her respective energy… so that I’d work on one for the evening and know that after that I wouldn’t work on her for a month.
The illustrations of this unreserved, elusive sisterhood of Moon Goddesses were created between the Scorpio Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in May 2022 (with the Sun in Taurus) and the Taurus Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in November 2022 (Sun in Scorpio). I worked on each form only in their own unique energy field, on the night of their moon phase. As the paper became obsolete and the feminine figures emerged, they shared stories with me and welcomed me into a deeper understanding of their particular cyclical wisdom magic.
I followed a set of descriptions about their physical appearance that guided me, for example with how many arms or faces they might have. The given descriptions include nakedness which felt so welcome in this moment of freeing the feminine, but do not include showing their vulvas, which many of my drawings do. That was my choice; it felt resonant that they be able to show their full selves unapologetically, and not in an antagonistic or sexual way, simply celebrating all of who they are instead of what they have been allowed to be.
They're also available as individual prints for you to work with and celebrate your Natal Moon Goddess - contact me if you're not sure who yours is!
